MEDHA Hackathon 2026 · Team TiPSY
The alarm that only shouts when it actually matters.
In busy ICUs, severe arrhythmias and hypotension get lost in a wall of false alerts and movement artefacts. TiPSY is an intelligent alarm layer that verifies every abnormality across multiple vitals, ranks it by real clinical priority, and keeps escalating until a clinician acknowledges it.

The problem
Alarm fatigue is a patient-safety problem, not a nuisance
When almost every alarm is meaningless, the one that matters stops being heard. The evidence is blunt.
85–99%
of ECG monitor alarms are false or clinically insignificant
~187
audible alarms per bed per day in a typical ICU
~1,000
alarms per nurse per shift across all devices
566
alarm-related deaths reported to the FDA between 2005–2008
30%
of all alarms receive a nursing response
59%
only 59% of red (critical) alarms receive a response
Sources: published ICU alarm-fatigue literature, AAMI and FDA MAUDE reporting.
What we provide
An intelligent layer on top of the monitors you already own
TiPSY does not replace bedside monitors. It ingests their streams over IoT and decides what deserves a human.

Verify
Every abnormal signal is cross-checked against SpO₂, heart rate and blood pressure before it is allowed to alarm.
Suppress
Lead contact loss, motion artefacts and benign fluctuations are labelled and silenced instead of screaming.
Escalate
Unacknowledged alerts climb tiers and reach the next responder — nurse, then in-charge, then intensivist.
Our novelties
Three things that make TiPSY different
Personalised limits, corroborated logic, and a design that scales into any ICU.
Vitals personalisation
- Clinicians set per-patient thresholds for HR, BP, SpO₂ and rhythm.
- Removes false alarms caused by one-size-fits-all limits across disorders.
Multiparameter logic
- An abnormal ECG escalates only after SpO₂, HR and BP corroborate it — otherwise it is flagged as lead contact or motion artefact.
- Yellow, orange and red priorities; only fatal and unattended alerts go high-pitched.
- Firm, explainable rules a clinical team can audit and trust.
Scalable deployment
- Works across NICU, CICU and respiratory ICU on existing infrastructure over IoT.
- Accessible anywhere on the hospital network for remote monitoring.
- Clinician feedback loop continually refines triage and cuts false alarms.
Working prototype
See the triage engine run live
Our simulation streams synthetic ICU beds, raises tiered alerts, and escalates them until you acknowledge — exactly as the IoT-connected deployment would.
